Victory at Long Last
Thousands of joyous Austin civilians--as well as personnel from nearby military bases--flowed into the streets of downtown Austin on the evening of August 14, 1945, when word of the final victory over Japan was received. The festivities celebrating the end of World War II lasted throughout the night and into the following day.
